The Artist Formerly Known As Cat Stevens

In May of this year, Yusuf Islam told Billboard.com:
"There were one hundred reasons for leaving the music industry back in 1979, not least because I had found what I was looking for spiritually. Today there are perhaps one hundred and one good reasons why I feel right making music and singing about life in this fragile world again."
And in October - after 28 years, Yusuf Islam, - as reported in the September issue of Mojo Magazine - the Artist Formerly Known as Cat Stevens - will release his first collection of new pop songs on Atlantic Records called An Other Cup. Co-produced by Islam and Rick Nowels - whose writing and production credits include Dido, Madonna and kd lang - the album includes a striking cover of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," and new songs including "There Is A World," and "One Day At A Time."
So - forget the politics for a second. Undeniably, the guy wrote two of the most classic singer-songwriter records EVER. Tea For The Tillerman and Teaser And The Firecat define the genre. And from his first charted song in 1966 ("I Love My Dog") to his retirement from pop music in 1978, Cat Stevens had many hits and penned some of the greatest songs.
