SXSW Day 3 and 1/2 - Yo Majesty Fuck That Shit Up
Day three (Fri/Sat AM) it actually gets better. Can you believe it music fans?
Friday - saw some incredible things starting with Rosie Thomas and Denison Witmer at the Paste Magazine/World Cafe day party at Maggie May's. Cold War Kids knocked it completely out of the park at Maggie May's (they just keep getting better) and I caught The Fratelli's at Stubbs with a special guest appearance of Pete Townshend. The Fratellis are blowing up like the rock stars they deserve to be. It's like dumb-smart rock that reminds me why I like Elvis-The Clash-The Kinks so much and lead Frat boy has really got it going on. Plus, he plays guitar solos which are in rare supply in SXSW these days. And in the cool shade of the late afternoon I took a moment and strolled over to the Levi's/Fader house to catch Amy Winehouse(yes!) who was just simply wonderful.
Wandering the halls, I caught a few tunes from Page France, This Is Me Smiling and Earl Greyhound (their 6th appearance at SX). I liked Page Francis's simplicity and directness and while I was psyched for The Good, The Bad and Queen at Stubbs, the sound sucked .

Friday nite was topped off not by the ROCK but by the women - first, ten teenage girls from Tokyo who play hip-hop and ska Pistol Valve and then it was off to the Beauty Bar on a last minute tip for Tampa's Yo Majesty, a trio of women rappers who brought the indierockhipsterblogger crowd to a ferocious high with an incredible performance.
