One of my favorite jamz these days is "She's Like The Wind" by R&B singer Lumidee featuring Tony Sunshine. Imagine my suprise when I found out that the song is actually a remake; originally on the movie soundtrack to Dirty Dancing that came out in 1987. The original was written and sung by Patrick Swayze. As soundtracks go - well, as cheesy 80's soundtracks go - it wasn't half bad. Which makes it half good. There were some strong oldies on it like "Be My Baby" by The Ronettes, "Stay" by Maurice Williams and The Zodiacs (a song made popular by Jackson Browne), Love Is Strange by Mickey and Sylvia, and the doo-wop classic by The Five Satins, "In The Still Of The Night." And who could forget the really mass hit song from the record (which won an academy award) "(I've Had) The Time Of My Life" by Jennifer Warnes and Bill Medley. Oh yeah, the Blow Monkeys also had a song on it.Here's the original song, followed by the videos of both the new and the original.
It's actually amazing how a good a song this is in the hands of Lumidee.
