In Some Velvet Memory of Lee Hazlewood
This past Saturday, Lee Hazlewood, died of cancer at the age of 78. Hazlewood was best known for writing and producing Nancy Sinatra's 1966 hit, "These Boots Are Made for Walkin'," and "Some Velvet Morning," the song that inspired the name of this blog. The night I started my blog, back in December of 2004, I was listening to a collection I have of Lee's music. I always loved the song "Some Velvet Morning." It's so mysterious. So dramatic. So late night. So early morning. So pulsing. So Massive Attack. So Dusty Springfield. So heroin. So Ennio Morricone. So Frank Sinatra. So Sunday Morning after staying up late at night drinking and having sex with your girlfriend. He and Nancy are incredibly sensual on this song. So I was listening to this CD I have and "Some Velvet Morning" came on just as I was prompted to pick a name for my blog...and the rest is history.
